The Republic of Consciousness Prize for Small Presses 2019 is open for submissions.

Submissions close: 30th November 2018

  • Only one novel or collection of short stories per publisher. The submitted book must be published in 2018 (calendar-year) in physical form. No digital-only work. (Sorry)

  • The prize is for fiction published by small presses, which we’ve broadly defined as having fewer than 5 fulltime paid employees.

  • No self-published novels will be considered (Sorry)

  • UK and Ireland presses only. (Sorry)

  • Collections of short stories must be by a single author.

  • The work must be literary fiction of the highest order in English, or translated into English.

Prize: all shortlisted books will receive some financial reward, with an overall prize fund being shared between the winner and rest of the shortlist. Last year we awarded £12500 to six small presses. We anticipate a similar prize-fund this year.

To submit an entry, fill in the submission form, and send to James Tookey (jwtookey[at]gmail[dot]com)
